  • A team of Alfaisal Electrical Engineering alumni participated in the Absherthon Challenge with an innovative device called “Connected Car Plates”. The Absherthon is launched by the Ministry of Interior to encourage and empower creativity and innovation, to employ new technologies that will help in creating new processes and developing the technical aspects of the ministry and for using the new technologies by joining Absher Oasis.The students’ idea involved innovative solution that provides accurate data to identify critical locations and major traffic problems.   • College of Engineering organizes the UN-Habitat Sustainable Housing Concept Plan (SHCP) Workshop/ Housing Design Studio & Student Design Challenge. This workshop was organized by UN-Habitat in partnership with the Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing (MoMRAH), and Alfaisal University. The workshop introduced students to Saudi’s Developmental Housing Program and affordable housing principles, UN-Habitat’s guidelines as well as sustainable and resilient housing principles and typologies through a series of talks and discussions. The SHCP workshop is part of a semester-long student design challenge where students from Alfaisal University and Dar Al-Uloom University compete to develop a masterplan and a housing plan for two sites in Alkhobar and Jeddah. The purpose of this challenge is to survey the youth’s perspective on possible changes to the the Saudi built environment and housing typologies through a sustainable design that is achieving Quality of Life parameters and matching with the 2030 Vision. The focus is also on incorporating international best practices of street and open space design (parking, pedestrian, bike lanes, open space, etc.), land-use, and facilities distribution. Know More.

  7. Let's Talk Community WORKshoPotluck was a workshop held at Alfaisal University under the CIPC. The workshop aimed to provide an opportunity for the participants to engage in community-building activities, exchange ideas, and collaborate to develop new community engagement projects. The event was aimed at promoting community engagement among the university's faculty and staff, and it achieved its objective. The workshop included brainstorming sessions where participants were grouped into five different tables to come up with innovative community engagement projects. In this report, we will highlight the key outcomes of the workshop, provide recommendations for project, process, and policy improvements that can be implemented at Alfaisal University. Know More.

The challenge, called Hillaha!, was jointly organized by Dimensions – the University’s accelerator unit – Ryadah – an entrepreneurship students club at Alfaisal University- and the Quality of Life Program. It is the first of many initiatives that emphasize the Program’s ambitions of bettering the quality of life in the Kingdom and finding and supporting means working toward this objective. Specifically, this vision-realization program works to improve individuals’ lifestyles by developing an ecosystem to support and create new options that boost citizens’ and residents’ participation in cultural, environmental, and sports activities.
